    Summary: PHP is now officially supported as a language for developing applications that can run on Windows Azure, Microsoft's cloud operating system.

    This article is an interview with Teoni Valois, an independent PHP and .NET expert that answered some questions to give an overview of the PHP support on Windows Azure.

    He also talks about the advantages and disadvantages of running PHP applications on this environment when compared to regular Windows or Linux based hosting or other cloud computing environments.

    Summary: The number of Indian PHP developers has been growing at a large pace in the last few years, when compared to other countries. A few years ago, India was just one of the top ten countries with more PHP developers. Now India is number 2 and is almost surpassing United States, which is still number 1.

    This article presents a reflection about why this growth happened just in the latest years, as well what it means for the PHP world.

    Sandeep Kadam, a leader of the PHP community in India gave an interview to help clarifying this subject.

    Description: This package can be used to manage CSV files like database tables.

    There is one class can manage CSV files with support for storing, retrieving and deleting rows of data and also to add and remove columns from those files.

    Inserted row identifier column values may be auto-incremented. The row retrieval is binary safe, may obey a given column sorting criteria similar to SQL ORDER BY clause, limit the number of retrieved rows similar to LIMIT clause, and support joins like with SQL LEFT OUTER JOIN.

    A separate sub-class allows importing and exporting data to MySQL database tables.

    Another class can generate an HTML forms based user interface for accessing data from CSV files, as well alter their columns.

    It can query a MySQL database and generate HTML with Javascript that renders nodes of a collapsible tree.

    It reads a CSS style sheet template file that may have definitions of styles assigned to variables. The variables may be used in the definition of other styles.

    The class expands the definition of all variables and stores the processed CSS style sheet in a cache file.

    OOCSS creates a new way to write CSS files in a new Object style fashion. Using Parent/Child relationships and predefined variables, you will be able to produce rapid CSS that is not only easier to maintain and read, is more intuitive as well.

  • PHP Spell Checker

    Description: This package can be used to check the spelling of text and get fix suggestions.

    There is a base class that defines functions for spell checking.

    There are also two classes for checking the spelling of text using either PHP scripts that contain arrays of valid words and grammar definitions, or using the hunspell program.

    If the classes determine that there are misspelled words, they may return suggestions for eventual fixes.

  • Tabajara Cache

    Description: This class can be used to cache the output of pages into files.

    It can check if a cache file exists and did not expire. If so, it outputs the contents of the cache file. Otherwise, the class starts capturing the output of the page.

    In the end the class retrieves the just captured output of the page stores it in a cache file.

    The class already compresses the output of the page that is cached.

    The cache expiry time is configurable.

  • UTF8 to UCS convertor

    It can take a string with Arabic characters and convert the characters to the respective representation of their codes in UCS.
